The YMCA of Greater Michiana works with local schools to offer safe, top-quality, enriching Before & After School Programs for your child! Under adult supervision, children participate in exciting age-appropriate activities and will experience a variety of programs that promote physical activity, nutrition habits, and social responsibility, as well as provide opportunities for homework.
Registration Information
Select Y-Club sites are licensed and require additional paperwork, outside of registration paperwork, to be on file before we care for your child(ren). All paperwork can be found here.

Schools Out, Ys In (SOYI)
For scheduled school days off, such as teacher development days, conferences, and some holidays, your child can enjoy programming at the YMCA! SOYI will be held at the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA. Please bring a swimsuit, gym gear, and lunch. On half days, all Lakeshore students are bussed from Roosevelt Elementary by the Y.
Registration will be available once school schedules are released.
Payment
- SOYI fees will be drafted on the day of care.
- A $20 charge will be incurred if you are enrolled but do not attend.
Emergency Closings Register Now!
For unexpected days off, such as snow days, you can have peace of mind knowing your child has Y-Club. This service will be provided if Lakeshore or St. Joseph School District closes subject to state of emergency. Care is provided at the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA and includes time in the gym and pool! Please bring your swim and gym gear and lunch.
Payment
- You will be registered at no cost.
- Billing will be drafted the day after emergency closing.

Students must be signed out by a YMCA staff member who will verify that the adult is authorized to pick up the student. After-school programs conclude at 6:00 PM each day. Students must be picked up no later than 6:00 PM. Parents can arrange for their child to be picked up earlier if necessary.

Before School Care is available for students from Ballard and Howard-Ellis, and is held at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA. Students will be bussed to their schools by Niles Transportation.
After School Care
After School Care is available for students from Ballard, Howard-Ellis, Eastside, and Ring Lardner, and is held at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA. Students will be bussed by Niles Transportation to the Y at the end of the school day.

For half days and scheduled school days off, such as teacher development days, conferences, and some holidays, your school-aged child can enjoy programming at the YMCA! SOYI will be held at the YMCA. Please bring a swimsuit, gym gear, and lunch. Half days are built into weekly Y-Club pricing structure for Y-Club students and do not require additional registration. Community members may register for half-day care without regularly attending Y-Club. Dates are determined based on Niles Community School calendar. Pre-registration is required.

- A $20 charge will be incurred if you are enrolled but do not attend.
- SOYI fees will be drafted on the day of care.
Emergency Closings Register Now!
For unexpected days off, such as snow days, you can have peace of mind knowing your child has Y-Club. This service will be provided if Niles School District is closed subject to state of emergency, however, children from any local school may register and attend. Care is provided at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA and includes time in the gym and pool! Please bring your swim and gym gear and lunch.
Payment
- There will not be an upfront charge if you choose to pre-register and place your child on the roster for possible emergency closing days.
- You will be charged and drafted the day after an Emergency Closing if your child attends. Fees based on pre-registration or day of registration.
- A $20 fee will be drafted if your child was pre-registered but did not attend without prior notification.

Free After School Care is held from after school until 6 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, 750 E. Britain Ave., Benton Harbor. Students are bused home.
