The Niles-Buchanan YMCA met a $25,000 matching challenge grant from a local foundation. The grant was contingent on the Y raising $25,000 through the community phase of its Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign.
The grant, officially awarded last week when the community contributions reached $25,000, will put the Y one step closer to its $3M goal.
The community phase of the campaign, which kicked off in March, is still ongoing.
“Investing in the Y is investing in the future of our community,” said Jill Haboush, VP of Fund Development and Marketing, YMCA of Southwest Michigan. “Every contribution—large or small—adds up and will have a positive impact on building a healthier community.”
The goal of the Y’s Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign is to provide affordable access to places for children and young people to find positive role models, something to do, and a purpose so they have a clear path to a healthy, productive life. As well, become a hub for lifelong health to all in our community.
The Niles-Buchanan YMCA will break ground in August on the expansion. The building improvements will include a second gymnasium, a youth center, a teen center, and fitness room. Construction is expected to take six-eight months to complete.
